# Does Perplexity search the full text of research papers or mainly their abstracts?

When I ask Perplexity about a specific method in a research paper, the answer sometimes cites the paper but doesn’t address details that appear deeper in the text. Does its research search usually draw on the full paper, or is it often working from an abstract, snippet, or another indexed summary?

I’m trying to judge how much confidence to put in a citation when the question depends on a particular experiment or limitation. Has anyone compared Perplexity’s answers with the **full text of research papers**?
