# How should Claude handle conflicting instructions in Project documents?

I’m using a Claude Project with several reference documents, and two of them don’t agree on a key term. If I ask Claude to follow one document over the other, does that instruction reliably take precedence over the project knowledge, or can the conflicting material still steer the answer?

I’d rather not remove useful background just because one section is out of date. How do you organize **conflicting Project documents** so Claude can tell which guidance is authoritative?
