# Can OpenAI API streaming produce schema-valid JSON as it arrives?

I’m building a UI that displays an OpenAI API response as it streams, and I’d like the final result to match a [JSON schema](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/117454/how-dependable-is-gpts-json-output-when-a-schema-has-optional-fields). The awkward part is that the response arrives in pieces, so the first few chunks aren’t valid JSON on their own.

How are people handling **streaming structured outputs** in practice? Do you wait until the response is complete before parsing, or is there a reliable way to show fields as they arrive without risking malformed data?
