# Does DeepSeek R1 help more than V3 with multi-file code debugging?

For debugging a codebase with a bug that crosses several files, would you reach for DeepSeek R1 or V3 first? I’m interested in whether R1’s reasoning style helps it connect a failing test to the relevant code, or whether V3 is just as useful once the prompt includes the error and enough surrounding context.

If you’ve compared them on **multi-file code debugging**, what kind of task made the difference noticeable? I’d also be interested in whether the choice changes when you’re using an API rather than a chat interface.
