# How does Perplexity handle sources that sit behind a paywall?

When Perplexity cites a newspaper or journal page that requires a subscription, what can it actually use from that source? I’m trying to understand whether a citation to **paywalled sources** means the relevant text was accessible, or whether the result may rely on a headline, snippet, or another page quoting it.

Does the answer make that distinction clear, and is there a practical way to tell what was available to the search at the time?
