# When I replace a Claude Project file, will older chats use the updated version?

## A question about refreshed Project knowledge

I keep reference documents in a Claude Project, and some of them change over time. If I replace a file with a newer version, what happens to chats I already started in that Project?

Do existing conversations pick up the **updated project files** automatically, or should I start a fresh chat whenever I need Claude to work from the latest copy? I’d also like to know if there’s a way to tell which version a conversation is using.
