# Can an OpenAI streaming response resume after a network drop?

I’m consuming the OpenAI Responses API as a stream, and I’m unsure what the safest recovery path is when a client loses its connection partway through. Can the **OpenAI Responses API stream** be resumed from the last event, or does the client have to start a new response?

My main concern is avoiding duplicate work if the response had already started a tool call before the connection disappeared. How are other developers handling reconnects and retries in production?
