# Does OpenAI’s previous_response_id carry instructions into the next API turn?

I’m testing a multi-turn workflow with the OpenAI Responses API and passing the previous response ID to continue the conversation. If I change the instructions on a later request, should I expect the new instructions to replace the earlier ones, or can earlier context still affect the answer?

I’m especially curious about what gets carried forward when the next turn comes from a different part of an app. How are others managing instruction changes without accidentally keeping old context around?
