# How does Perplexity handle conflicting timestamps in breaking-news searches?

When I search a developing story in Perplexity, I sometimes see sources that were updated at different times, or pages whose publication date doesn’t seem to match when the reported event happened. That makes it hard to tell which details are genuinely newer.

How do you interpret **publication timestamps** in a Perplexity answer during a **breaking-news search**? Does the answer make a useful distinction between when a page was published, when it was updated, and when the events it describes occurred?
