# How much extra latency and token use comes with DeepSeek reasoning?

I’m testing DeepSeek on tasks that sometimes need multi-step reasoning and sometimes only need a quick extraction. The reasoning option seems useful, but I’m unsure how much it changes response time and billed token usage in a typical application.

Has anyone measured the trade-off between **reasoning mode latency** and answer quality on their own workload? I’m trying to decide whether to enable it selectively or leave it on for every request.
