# When I replace a file in a Claude Project, do existing chats use the new version?

I use a Claude Project with a few reference documents, and one of those files changes regularly. If I replace a **project source file**, I’m not sure whether a chat that was already open will pick up the updated version or keep working from the older context.

For people who update project files mid-work, do you start a new chat to be safe, or have you found that existing conversations reflect the replacement?
