# Why does Perplexity sometimes seem to answer a narrower question than I asked?

I’ve noticed that a broad question in Perplexity can produce an answer focused on just one interpretation of it. Sometimes the response is useful, but it skips the comparison or qualification I had in mind.

Does Perplexity rewrite or narrow a query before searching, and is there a way to tell when that has happened? I’m interested in how people phrase questions when they want the answer to cover **multiple interpretations** rather than settle on one quickly.
