# How can I pin an OpenAI model version for a production app?

I’m preparing a production rollout and want to avoid an unexpected behavior change when a model alias starts pointing to a newer version. What’s the best way to pin an OpenAI model version, and how do you handle testing and upgrades when a snapshot is eventually retired?

I’m especially interested in what people put between a model update and a full release: a small canary, a fixed evaluation set, or something else?
