# How does Claude handle conflicting instructions in project documents?

I have two [reference documents](https://www.mindstick.com/forum/162180/data-modeling-in-cosmos-db-when-to-embed-vs-reference-documents) in a Claude project that disagree about a policy: one is newer, but the other is more specific. When I ask a question touching both, I’m not sure what determines which guidance Claude follows.

How do you manage **conflicting project documents** in practice? Do you add an explicit priority note, revise the source files, or handle the conflict in each prompt?
