# Does the OpenAI Batch API preserve the order of submitted requests?

I’m looking at the [OpenAI Batch API](https://www.mindstick.com/forum/162353/is-openai-batch-api-practical-for-nightly-classification-jobs) for a job that sends thousands of independent prompts. If the results come back in a different order from the input file, is there a reliable identifier I should use to match each response to its original request?

I’d rather not depend on the output sequence staying the same between batches. What has worked for people processing [batch results](https://www.mindstick.com/forum/162505/how-do-you-match-openai-batch-api-results-to-the-requests-that-created-them) in production?
