# Which date does Perplexity use when I ask for articles from the past week?

When I ask Perplexity for technology articles published in the past week, I sometimes get older pages that were updated recently. For a weekly reading list, that distinction matters: a newly edited buying guide isn't necessarily a newly published article.

### The date ambiguity I'm trying to resolve

A page can show an original publication date, a last-updated date, and a date in its search snippet. A syndicated copy may also have a later date than the original story.

Can I ask Perplexity to report **publication dates versus update dates** separately for each result, with evidence from the page? I'd like entries with an unclear original date to be marked as uncertain rather than included simply because they look recent.

If you use it for a weekly digest, how do you specify the date window and verify borderline results? I'm particularly curious whether the wording “first published” changes the selection reliably, or whether this still needs a manual check.
