# Can Claude compare contract revisions when clauses have moved or been renumbered?

I have two revisions of a supplier agreement that I want Claude to compare before a human legal review. The newer version moves several clauses into an appendix, renumbers the remaining sections, and changes some wording along the way.

A normal text diff is noisy here. What I need is a distinction between **text that moved**, wording that changed without an obvious change in meaning, and potentially substantive changes such as a different notice period.

For anyone using Claude for **contract version comparison**, how do you ask it to match clauses across documents? Would you request paired excerpts with section references first, then a separate assessment of the differences?

I’m particularly concerned about a deleted obligation being incorrectly matched to a vaguely similar paragraph elsewhere. What checks help catch those mismatches without manually repeating the entire comparison? This would be a review aid, not a substitute for legal advice.
