# Can a locally served DeepSeek model call tools through an OpenAI-compatible endpoint?

I’m looking at running a DeepSeek model locally and connecting it to an app that expects an OpenAI-compatible endpoint. Has anyone got tool or function calling working reliably with that setup?

I’m trying to understand whether the main differences come from the model, the serving layer, or the client’s tool-call format. If you’ve tested this, which combination did you use, and what broke first?
