# Why does DeepSeek sometimes answer in Chinese when I prompt it in English?

I’ve had a few DeepSeek conversations where the prompt was in English but part of the answer came back in Chinese. It seems to happen more often when the question includes Chinese names or phrases, but I haven’t found a consistent pattern.

Is this a model behavior others have noticed, or could it depend on the app, model version, or [language settings](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/103432/how-to-change-language-settings-in-skype)? I’m interested in what triggers the switch and how people keep replies in one language.
