# What should developers know about data retention when sending code to DeepSeek’s hosted API?

I’m considering using DeepSeek’s hosted API to help with internal development, but some prompts would include snippets from a private codebase. Before testing that workflow, I want to understand what happens to submitted prompts and responses after the request is finished.

Where do you look for current retention and data-use terms, and do you take extra precautions before sending internal source code to a hosted model? I’m interested in practical checks teams make, not assumptions based on how a local model works.
