# Is DeepSeek reasoning mode useful for research questions that have no exact answer?

I’ve tried DeepSeek’s reasoning mode on open-ended research questions, not just math or coding problems. It often gives a longer explanation, but I’m unsure whether that means it has weighed the evidence more carefully or is simply spelling out a more elaborate response.

For questions with competing interpretations or incomplete evidence, have you noticed a meaningful difference in **open-ended research answers** with reasoning enabled? What do you use to judge the quality beyond response length?
