# How reliable is Claude at preserving footnotes in scanned PDFs?

I’m working with scanned reports where some of the useful details are tucked into footnotes, and I’m trying to understand how well Claude handles them. Does it pick up footnote text consistently, or can OCR and [page layout](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/12253/30-stunning-homepage-layouts-from-circle-creative-shop-multipurpose-wordpress-theme) cause notes to be missed or attached to the wrong paragraph?

If you’ve tested this with long documents, I’d be curious whether providing page images separately makes a noticeable difference.
