# Why does Perplexity sometimes stop after one search when I expect deeper research?

Some questions I ask Perplexity lead to several rounds of searching, while others get a quick answer after what looks like a single search. For a topic with a few separate parts, I’m not always sure whether I’ve chosen the wrong mode or phrased the request poorly.

What prompts or settings help Perplexity treat a question as **multi-step research** rather than a quick lookup? I’d also like to hear how people judge whether it has searched enough, without asking it to keep browsing just for the sake of it.
