# Can the Grok API enforce a JSON schema for every response?

I’m considering Grok for a small service that consumes model output as JSON. Returning valid JSON most of the time isn’t quite enough for my use case: a missing field or an unexpected value can break the next step.

Does the API offer **schema-constrained JSON output**, or do you still need to validate and repair responses yourself? If you’ve used it in production, I’d like to hear how it behaves when the prompt asks for something that doesn’t fit the schema.
