# Does Claude Code respect package-specific instructions in a monorepo?

I’m using Claude Code in a monorepo where different packages have their own conventions, scripts, and test commands. The root-level instructions cover the whole project, but I’m not sure how reliably Claude notices guidance that only applies inside a particular package.

For people working this way, do nested instruction files keep edits within the right **package boundaries**, or do you still need to restate the relevant rules in each request? I’d be interested in examples where this worked well—or where it missed a local convention.
