# When OpenAI image edits drift, can I preserve the original composition?

I’m using OpenAI’s image editing to make small changes to existing images, but sometimes an edit changes more than the detail I asked about. For example, changing an object’s color can also shift its position or alter the background.

Have you found a reliable way to **preserve the original composition** across edits? I’m curious whether the wording of the prompt makes a real difference, or if some amount of visual drift is just expected.
