# Does Perplexity distinguish a paper’s publication date from its update date?

I use Perplexity to get an initial view of research on technical topics, and I’ve noticed that some pages have a recent update date even though the original paper is much older. That makes it hard to tell whether a result is genuinely new or simply a refreshed page.

When searching for recent work, does Perplexity reliably surface the original publication date, or do you need to open each source and check? I’m interested in how people verify **updated publication dates** before treating a result as new evidence.
