# What should I do when a Claude API response gets cut off?

I’m using Claude through the API to produce fairly long reports, and occasionally the response stops partway through a section. It isn’t always obvious whether the model reached its output limit or whether something went wrong in my request handling.

For people who have dealt with **truncated Claude responses**, what do you check first? I’d also like to know how you handle a partial answer without accidentally treating it as complete or prompting the model to repeat the whole report.
