# Can Perplexity answer from uploaded files without leaning on web results?

I have a small collection of reference files that should be the source of truth for a project. I’m wondering whether Perplexity can answer questions from those files while keeping general web information from filling in gaps or quietly changing the answer.

For people who have tried this, how do you tell whether a response is actually grounded in the **uploaded reference files**? I’m interested in the behavior when a question is not covered by the files, as well as whether the answer makes it clear which source it used.
