What are the [common types of network](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/116060/what-are-common-types-of-network-attacks-and-how-can-they-be-prevented) [attacks](https://yourviews.mindstick.com/view/81381/us-president-donald-trump-attacks-joe-biden-in-his-own-s-style) and how can they be mitigated?

There are many different types of [network attacks](https://www.mindstick.com/blog/145107/7-types-of-data-network-attacks-everyone-should-know), but some of the most [common](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/23170/10-most-common-accounting-mistakes-of-small-business) include:

- **Denial-of-service (DoS) attacks:** These attacks are designed to make a network or service unavailable to its intended users. DoS attacks can be carried out in a variety of ways, such as flooding the network with traffic or sending malicious packets to a server.
- **Man-in-the-middle (MitM) attacks:** These attacks allow the attacker to intercept communications between two parties. MitM attacks can be carried out by compromising a router or by using a fake Wi-Fi hotspot.
- **SQL injection attacks:** These attacks exploit vulnerabilities in web applications to execute malicious SQL statements against a database. SQL injection attacks can be used to steal data, modify data, or even take control of a database.
- **Phishing attacks:** These attacks involve sending emails or text messages that appear to be from a legitimate source, such as a bank or credit card company. The emails or text messages often contain a link that, when clicked, takes the victim to a fake website that looks like the real website. Once the victim enters their login information on the fake website, the attacker can steal it.
- **Malware attacks:** These attacks involve installing malicious software on a victim's computer. Malware can be used to steal data, install other malware, or disrupt operations.

There are a number of things that can be done to mitigate network attacks, including:

- **Use strong passwords:** Strong passwords are difficult to guess, and they should be at least 12 characters long and include a mix of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols.
- **Keep your software up to date:** Software updates often include security patches that can help to protect against known vulnerabilities.
- **Use a firewall:** A firewall can help to block unauthorized traffic from reaching your network.
- **Use a web application firewall (WAF):** A WAF can help to protect web applications from a variety of attacks, including SQL injection attacks and cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks.
- **Be careful about what information you share online:** Don't post your personal information, such as your address or phone number, on social media.
- **Be aware of the signs of an attack:** These can include sudden spikes in traffic, website outages, and errors. If you suspect that you are under attack, report it to your IT department.

By following these tips, you can help to protect your network from attack.
