In **Bootstrap-5** some performance optimizations and improvements over Bootstrap 4 have been incorporated. These changes are concerned with writing more contemporary wiring of the framework, increasing velocity and modularity, and decreasing reliance on supplemental programs. Here’s a summary of the key improvements:

**Removal of jQuery Dependency**\
Bootstrap 5 no longer depends on jQuery, which thus brings its small size and better performance, as well as better integration with popular JavaScript frameworks like React, Vue, and Angular.

**Improved Grid System**\
New `xxl`breakpoints for additional extra-large screens and `gx-*` and `gy-*` classes increase additional control over horizontal and vertical gaps, increasing the layout’s usability and responsiveness.

**Use of CSS Custom Properties**\
Makes it easier to apply themes, makes it easier to customize, and create small CSS files that don’t need to be compiled again.

**Refactored JavaScript**\
The plugins have become application components, and all plugins are written in modern ES6+ features, so one can include only necessary components and plugins, and the sizes of bundles are optimal.

**Responsive Font Sizes (RFS)**\
They adapt themselves to the size of the viewport which increases cross-device readability without additional editing.

**Redesigned Forms**\
Many forms become uniform, spaced evenly, use more efficient DOM structures, and thus, become more accessible, manageable, and aesthetic.

**Accessibility Enhancements**\
Bootstrap 5 brings enhancements to ARIA attributes, stays compliant with WCAG 2.1, and provides better Screen Reader support.

**Bootstrap Icons** \
It also contains a simple, lightweight SVG icon set rather than using any extra large external libraries.

**Optimized Sass Compilation**\
Predominantly, faster Sass compilation and the implementation of imports limited to certain components make builds shorter and CSS as a result lighter.

**Improved Utility API**\
The renewal of the utility classes API makes it possible to enhance the original settings of utility classes thus enhancing the execution of a project.
