## What Is Product Design?

[Product design](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/300173/4-different-approaches-to-successful-product-design) is the process of identifying a market [opportunity](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/12836/flexibility-and-opportunity-making-the-gig-economy-work-for-you), clearly defining the problem, developing a proper solution for that problem and validating the solution with real users.

## DESIGN THINKING AS THE FOUNDATION FOR THE DESIGN PROCESS

[Design thinking](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/111895/can-you-explain-the-role-of-design-thinking-in-software-development-processes) is a method for the practical [resolution](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/12502/looking-for-an-mba-degree-we-guide-you-with-the-perfect-resolution) of problems. Originally coined by David Kelley and Tim Brown of IDEO (the detail information you can [find here](https://www.google.com/)), design thinking has become a popular approach to creating products. This approach encapsulates methods and ideas of human-centered design into a single unified concept. According to Tim Brown:

Design thinking is a human-centered approach to [innovation](https://www.mindstick.com/blog/305527/future-ready-care-how-innovation-is-shaping-the-next-generation-of-ndis-services) that draws from the designer’s toolkit to integrate the needs of people, the possibilities of [technology](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/13005/the-functional-aspects-of-laser-technology) and the [requirements](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/12850/drivers-license-requirements) for [business success](https://yourviews.mindstick.com/story/4521/10-must-read-books-for-business-success).

Good designers have always applied design thinking to product design (whether physical or digital) because it’s focused on end-to-end [product development](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/12220/software-product-development-comparative-buisness-strategies-between-america-india), and not just the “design phase” part.
