The initial step is to consult with a doctor or trichologist. They can determine what's causing the [hair loss](https://www.mindstick.com/blog/299968/hair-problems) and suggest therapies that may be appropriate for you. They may recommend a variety of choices, such as:

1. The use of **minoxidil (Rogaine)**. This drug is applied to your scalp as a foam or a liquid. It is available without a prescription over the counter. It may take many months for [your hair](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/44219/treat-your-hair-fall-in-just-simple-steps) to thicken after using it. If you stop using minoxidil, you'll start losing your hair again.

2. **Finasteride** is a drug that is used to treat hair loss (Propecia). This [prescription drug](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/114295/what-policies-best-address-rising-prescription-drug-costs-without-stifling-innovation) is in the form of a tablet that you consume by mouth. You may need to take finasteride over months to see benefits, and if you quit taking it, you will lose new hair.

3. **Microneedling** is the third option. As per the American Academy of Dermatology, a device with hundreds of small pins that you use on your scalp may promote [hair growth](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/167749/diy-coffee-rinse-and-scrub-for-hair-loss-prevention-and-hair-growth). According to the website, research shows that using micro needling in conjunction with some other hair loss therapy may be more effective. You may purchase one of these gadgets without [medication](https://www.mindstick.com/news/1912/with-the-use-of-sweat-sensor-could-track-medication-intake-within-30-seconds), but you should first consult a dermatologist. They can tell you if it's safe for you and suggest a certain micro-needling device.

4. **Transplantation of hair** This form of surgery has the potential to provide long-term outcomes. Individual tresses a strip of skin containing hairs—are removed from one portion of your skull and transplanted to diminishing or thinning areas by a surgeon. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, the procedure takes 4 to 8 hours. To find out when this treatment is suitable for you, speak with a dermatologist.

5. **Low-level laser treatment** is number five. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, this scalp therapy may assist with the following conditions:
