# Are all Shampoos and Conditioners safe to use during Pregnancy?

Shampoo [your hair](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/44219/treat-your-hair-fall-in-just-simple-steps) for only half a minute before washing. So it’s not that bad, is it? Certainly not, to be honest.

**Here's how it works:** In animal research, sodium lauryl sulfate, a common surfactant in shampoos, has been linked to congenital anomalies. (It should be noted that it is safe to use sodium_laureth_sulphate.) Other ingredients to avoid in hair care products may include parabens, henna, synthetic perfumes, and phthalates. And methylisothiazolinone, a preservative (MIT). Thales has been shown to affect hormone levels and has been shown in MIT [scientific research](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/107875/summarize-the-recent-breakthroughs-in-scientific-research) to reduce the formation of nerve cells in mice. Scientists do not test chemicals on [pregnant women](https://yourviews.mindstick.com/view/81082/coronavirus-pandemic-is-targeting-pregnant-women-in-usa), so we do not know how they [affect human](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/115692/how-do-environmental-factors-like-pollution-affect-human-health-over-time) embryos. Additionally, since your hair follicles act as entry sites into your epidermis, those substances can easily enter your system.

The thing is, these compounds are commonly found in shampoos. Therefore, when you are pregnant, we recommend washing less often than usual (once a week, we avoid it by doing a few washes a week!). Conditioner should be applied only on the ends of the hair, not on the roots. Make a yogurt hair mask using eggs, plain yogurt, and honey for a complete conditioning treatment.

### Is the shampoo you are using safe?

You probably do not need to look for more than your bathroom for pregnancy-safe shampoo. As long as you do not use a pharmaceutical product, you can use your regular hair care products during pregnancy as they do not contain any harmful ingredients.

We believe that it is better to be careful than sorry when it comes to pregnancy. If you choose to follow the [natural beauty](https://yourviews.mindstick.com/story/4020/5-natural-beauty-products) rule during your pregnancy, stay away from the ingredients listed below.

### Stay away

Although the scent contains the smell of [your shampoo](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/44149/things-to-remember-for-you-to-find-in-your-shampoo), synthetic scents can cause a certain irritation to the scalp and skin. If you are particularly sensitive to odors, it can cause itching on your scalp and [contribute](https://www.mindstick.com/news/2332/japan-will-contribute-500-million-to-the-startup-rapidus-for-manufacturing-processors) to future [hair loss](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/311714/hair-loss-can-be-partly-reversed). Shampoos that change color with chemicals are pleasant, but they are irritating to the delicate scalp. Sulfates share this feature because these harmful compounds reduce essential oils on your hair and scalp.

Preservatives such as parabens, which are regularly added to a variety of cosmetic products, are often misunderstood. Contrary to popular belief, there is no evidence that using products that contain parabens may [increase your](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/13130/tips-to-increase-your-online-magento-e-store) ****** cancer risk. Although studies show that they are generally safe to use, they are synthetic materials, so they should be handled with care.
