# How To Get Started With Instagram AR Camera Effects

At this stage everyone should have heard about these new AR camera effects that people have been adding into their [Instagram stories](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/23441/how-to-gain-more-followers-on-instagram-through-instagram-stories). I mean why bother snapping a regular old selfie of yourself when you could be taking a selfie of yourself with a dog face or kylie’s latest lipstick? I couldn’t think of anything worse, taking a video of a regular face when you could be recording yourself with big bug eyes and a crazy high pitched cartoon voice. These are the important [decisions](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/12962/4-important-decisions-to-make-when-booking-your-cruise) we are all now faced with resulting from the advent of these new Instagram AR filters. There is a load of these AR filters already on Instagram but users can’t seem to get enough of them. With their popularity no where near peaking and the [technology](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/13005/the-functional-aspects-of-laser-technology) advancing further and further allowing fir more complicated AR filter [functionality](https://www.mindstick.com/blog/136/using-watermark-functionality-in-textbox-by-jquery) it is clear there is a [never ending](https://yourviews.mindstick.com/view/81543/never-ending-problem-of-road-congestion) void to be filled with these camera effects. If you want to learn more about these filters **check this out**.\
\
The [platform](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/13080/wikipedia-the-most-powerful-advertising-platform-of-the-digital-age) released a statement saying, "Whether you want to make your friends laugh or add some glam to your selfies, you now have more ways to express yourself and feel closer to [your favorite](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/36808/what-is-your-favorite-before-and-after-photos) accounts."\
\
First off these AR effects are very unique, there is literally a never ending scope to what can be achieved using the technology available already, not to mention what is already coming down the pipeline. To get good traction early on Instagram partnered with some top creators to make some seriously cool options that users really engaged with and got behind. From there the flood gates opened and now it is possible for everyone to create and submit their very own AR camera effect. This is just another tool for accounts to create a deeper [connection](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/13012/what-makes-ethernet-connection-better-than-wifi) with their audience and ultimately [increase](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/12959/are-you-struggling-to-increase-the-profit-of-your-liquor-store) their engaged following. Obviously, marketers have been quick to jump onto this new trend partnering with different AR agencies to create their own unique and immersive AR experiences. Check out this AR agency **here**.\
\
The first lot of branded AR filters to be included came from Ariana Grande, Buzzfeed, vloggers Liza Koshy and Baby Ariel. Each filter was completely different and fitted in perfectly with the persons style and general aesthetic. \
\
Maybe you have indeed been under a rock and you are like “how do I get those filters? Somebody tell me quick!!! I need a video selfie of myself as a cat [right now](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/36863/what-would-happen-if-gravity-became-5-percent-stronger-right-now)!”. Well all you need to do is click on to the camera icon in the top left corner, as if you were taking a picture or a video for a story. When you get there click on the face icon in the bottom right corner to access the AR camera effect options. You used to have to be following the account to be able to access their filters but rumour has it they are removing that. It couldn’t really be any easier and there are so many to choose from now. \
