# How to turn off proxy server Windows 8

Hi everyone in this blog I’m explaining about turn off [proxy server](https://www.mindstick.com/blog/304599/how-do-i-find-my-proxy-server-address-a-complete-guide) Windows 8.\

#### Details:

A proxy server is an intermediary between [your computer](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/13023/choosing-the-best-power-cord-for-your-computer-a-layman-s-guide) and the internet, often used to hide your real location and allow you to access websites that would otherwise be blocked.

If you're [having trouble](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/50524/how-to-fix-iphone-8-that-s-overheating-and-having-trouble-turning-on) [connecting to the internet](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/94535/why-is-whatsapp-not-connecting-to-the-internet) via Internet Explorer, it's possible that it has been set to use a proxy server. To change this, launch IE, click on the cog at the top-right corner and choose Internet Options from the menu.

Then, click on the Connections tab, then the LAN settings button. A new window will open where you can untick the 'Use a proxy server for your LAN' option. Make sure the 'Automatically detect settings' box is checked (as in the image above) and then click OK, then OK again.

Sometimes, after a reboot, you'll find that your settings have been undone and they have returned to using a proxy server. This usually indicates the presence of malware of some description, although some people have reported that the change is made by their [internet security](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/167386/how-can-we-find-complete-internet-security) software.

#### In any case, you can try several things:

- v Temporarily disable the firewall provided [as part of your](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/35502/will-you-count-posts-tweets-and-comments-on-others-posts-and-blogs-as-part-of-your-content) internet security software (not all include one)
- v Run a scan for malware using your anti-virus or other security software
- v Download Malwarebytes ([free version](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/36063/can-i-monetize-a-blog-with-a-free-version)) and check for and remove malware
- v Use a different [web browser](https://www.mindstick.com/blog/301688/best-web-browsers-for-2023), such as Firefox or Chrome and see if it fixes your problem
