# How to update firmware of Linksys WiFi range extender?

Updating [your Linksys](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/23268/connect-devices-using-wps-button-on-your-linksys-wifi-router) WiFi range extender to latest firmware is very much required, to have [smooth working](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/13118/tips-to-ensure-smooth-working-of-your-shear-blades) of the extender.

**Linksys** release firmware for the extenders, regularly, to counter issues that user may face while dealing with **Linksys range extenders.**

Now the question that gets arisen is, how to [update your](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/96426/how-can-you-update-your-profile-without-notifying-contacts) Linksys WiFi range extender to [latest version](https://www.mindstick.com/forum/156585/latest-version-of-bootstrap) of firmware????

Before moving for updating firmware, you will be required to download and save the firmware file on to the computer which you are going to use during [installation process](https://answers.mindstick.com/blog/338/basic-requirements-and-ollama-installation-process). \

Steps involved in updating the firmware varies as per model number of the range extender. But in all cases user will be required to firstly log in to Linksys’s web based setup page. Steps for the same are:\

**Step 1:**\
Establish Ethernet [connection](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/123/connection-string) between the [Linksys extender](https://www.mindstick.com/blog/11996/complete-manual-guide-for-linksys-extender-setup) and computer on to which you had saved firmware file, and ensure that extender will not be [connected](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/12941/link-building-and-search-engine-rankings-how-are-they-connected) with router while the upgradation is going on.

**Step 2:**\
Then open up internet browser and open Linksys extender default webpage i.e. **http://linksys.extender.com** or 192.168.1.1 which is default IP address assigned to this webpage.

**Step 3:** \
In next step you will be asked to enter credentials to get logged in. By default these credentials includes to be\
Username: admin\
Password: password\
By entering the same, hit on Log in.

By this you get logged in to web based setup page. Steps from here on varies as per model number of **Linksys range extender.** Let’s discuss these steps one by one.\

Steps involved for updating firmware on Linksys RE6500, RE3000W v2, or RE4100W range extender\

**Step 1:**\
Once you get logged in to web-based setup page, click on Firmware Upgrade present under Administration option.\

Then click on Choose File to upload firmware file.\

**Step 3:**\
Here you will be required to upload a file having .bin as extension.\

**Step 4:**\
Then just click on Start Upgrade. By this [your extender](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/23172/login-mywifiext-net-and-setup-your-extender-by-the-advice-of-an-expert) will start updating firmware.\

Steps involved for updating firmware on Linksys RE1000, RE2000, RE3000, RE3000W, or RE4000W range extender\
\
**Step 1:** \
Once you get logged in in to Linksys’s web-based setup page, click on the Administration tab then on Firmware Upgrade sub-tab.\
\
**Step 2:** \
It will ask you to upload firmware file. To upload the same click on Browse….\
\
**Step 3:**\
Upload the downloaded firmware file. It will be having .bin extension.\
\
**Step 4:**\
Then click on Start Upgrade.\
