Comparison: Maruti Suzuki Celerio v/s Tata Tiago

In recent years, a lot of Car makers in India are turning towards inventing SUVs crossovers into their entry-level hatchbacks. Tata launched their first hatchback crossover, Tiago NRGin September 2018. The new Tiago competes with the likes of Maruti Suzuki’s Celerio X. Both vehicles come from the reputed companies and are immensely popular among car buyers. Hence, we draw a comparison between the features of Maruti Suzuki Celerio & Tata Tiago to see who wins this race.

Design &Styling: 

Tata Tiago NRG is subtle in its styling and gets body coverings all around in a typical crossover fashion. There are artificial skid plates on both the bumpers, roof rails on top, roof-mounted spoiler. The car gets 14-inch alloy wheels as a part of the NRG package. The Tiago NRG is offered in three colour options – Malabar Silver, Canyon Orange and Fuji White. 

The most exciting Maruti Suzuki Celerio feature is the smeared-eyeliner-like effect beneath the headlights is done in gloss black finish and that houses the circular fog lamps. The car gets X-themed graphic near the grille along with a protective coating on side body and a base plate on the rear. The new colour options for Celerio X include– Solid Paprika Orange, Arctic White, Glistening Grey, Caffeine Brown, and Torque Blue. 

Interiors:

The cabin inside Tiago has a heavy dose of orange. The car has orange inserts around the AC vents, centre console, gearbox housing and on seats in a manner of patterned stitching. It also debuts with a touchscreen music system in the Tiago range. Tiago also features rear parking sensors, follow-me-home headlamps, driver seat belt reminder as well as corner stability control.

The interiors of Celerio mean business, giving out a formal vibe.The cabin layout and elements have the black treatment from the exterior which is then extended to the seats that also gets orange piping.For the safety of its driver, the Maruti Suzuki Celerio features a driver-side airbag as a standard option. Meanwhile, the passenger airbags and ABS are provided as an optional fitment across all trims.

Engine & Transmission:

Tata Tiago NRG as the cross hatch gets 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.05-litre diesel engine. While the petrol engine is good for churns out the power and torque outputs of 84 hp and 114 Nm, the diesel engine makes out 69 hp and 140 Nm.

Maruti Suzuki Celerio specifications include an engine of 998cc, three-cylinder petrol engine mated to a five-speed manual transmission. The engine is good for shedding out respective power and torque outputs of 68 hp and 90 Nm. The car gets an option of a five-speed AMT as well.

Pricing:

The Tiago NRG has been introduced in India for an introductory price of Rs 5.49 lakhs for petrol and Rs 6.31 lakhs. According to an authorised Maruti dealer, Maruti Suzuki Celerio price in Delhi retails between Rs 4.75-5.61 lakhs across its eight variants.
