# How to do percentages in Excel

In this [article](https://yourviews.mindstick.com/view/81489/kashmir-now-after-an-year-of-abrogation-of-article-370) I have described to [calculate percentages](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/100261/how-to-calculate-percentages) between different cell values. For example compute a [sales](https://yourviews.mindstick.com/view/87843/how-shoppable-ads-work-in-sales-and-marketing) [tax](https://yourviews.mindstick.com/view/81085/absence-of-tax-regime-under-coronavirus-lockdown), or determine a percent change in sales between two [fiscal](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/51964/who-is-the-author-of-the-book-indian-fiscal-federalism) quarters etc. There are several ways to calculate percentages.\

Percentages are [calculated](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/31699/what-is-sensex-and-how-it-is-calculated) by using the following equation:

amount/total = percentage

Note: Percentage is in [decimal](https://www.mindstick.com/forum/34709/please-write-a-program-for-decimal-to-binary-conversion-in-c-sharp) format.

For demonstration I have get percentage of get marks as below [image](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/23551/an-investigate-distinctive-seafood-restaurant-for-your-image-stamp-character) data.

**=B8/C8*100**

Now, let's say that you want to reduce a particular amount by %, like when you're trying to apply a discount. Here's a formula that would get you that result. (Think of the 1 in the formula below as a stand-in for 100%.)
