5 Essential Tips on Resume Writing for Business Analysts

Business Intelligence has become one of the fastest developing jobs in the business world. Currently, there are so many people looking for this job that the employment rate has increased by no less than 16% percent. This field is profitable both short term and long term – that is why so many individuals choose it!

With the competition being so real, many business analysts give up on the field. This usually happens when their job applications are weak, and therefore do not express their true qualities. This does not have to be you though. By focusing on improving your resume, you can beat your competitors easily. All you need to do is go through the following mini-manual that I put up for you. Choose the fittest methods that will help you write a resume properly.

How to Write the Best Resume Ever

Companies spend huge amounts of money on hiring new people. While the interviews, skills, and physical appearances are important, the resume is what distinguishes yourself from your competitors. Having a strong resume is an infallible path to success. That is why you need to have an impeccable written resume prepared.

1. Customize Accordingly

When we talk about business analytics, we are referring to multiple roles in a company. This is a huge field with numerous positions. Make sure that you customize your resume according to the vacant spot you’re applying for. Match their needs and their needs only! Otherwise, you will lose the race before starting to run.

2. Important References and Academic Results

It is essential that your bio highlights your best qualities. You should never lie in your description, but writing your greatest achievements first is a witty strategy. We should be proud of our strengths, so letting our potential employers see them is never wrong.

For instance, let’s say you graduated Yale and went a year abroad to study at Oxford. That should be emphasized in your resume! Don’t start with the accomplishments, start with the names first – Yale, Oxford, whatever those would be. If your school was not widely recognized, make sure you write your position first, and then the name of the college.

3. Quality over Quantity

Many years at the same working place won’t do much unless you have achieved outstanding results. The recruiter sees your resume as a strong basis to your future development and involvement in the company. Thus, feel free to “brag” about yourself and your skills.

There are a couple successful ways to emphasize your skills without being arrogant. All you need to do is present yourself in a decent, smart manner. You would need to say something like this: “I was a business analyst at company X for Y years. During this time, I have learned that success comes with great effort. Therefore, by working extra shifts every day, I brought Z thousand dollars to my company during the first trimester. Thus, the company’s costs went down by T percent while I was working there.”

This is just a way you could do it, but there are so many others. What I wanted to underline here is how imperative it is to point out your results. Matthew Stroud, CEO at Careers Booster shares his thoughts on this. “Applying for a second job was tough. There are so many people without any job at all, so I didn’t think I would be selected. But I showed my recruiter how important I was for my company, and I proved to him that he cannot afford to lose me. I eventually got a job there! I would have never believed it.”

4. It’s All About Them

Professional companies want professional employers. While expressing your desires makes great small talk material, your interviewer will care only if your desires align with the company’s goals. Be prepared to talk about them more than about you, because you are the one who will be working for them.

5. Say No to Clichés and Complicated Structures

Employers, recruiters, company staff… they are all so fed up with the same old clichés people use in their resumes that using them will harm you. Expose your abilities with sincerity and without any useless additions. Yes, we know you love your job, and yes, you are here to learn, not for the money. We get it. Now who would actually recognize the opposite? Get rid of these irrelevances if they are present in your resume.

Make sure you use a plain and simple language, no need for complicated words. They will understand you are smart while talking to you, so there is no point in using pretentious vocabulary. Also, keep the structure of your resume easily readable, as your recruits won’t have time to go through all the details. Make their jobs easier too!

Wrap-up

Some people believe resume writing is an easy process. As you might have seen, it is an actual challenging mechanism. Writing a good resume is like writing an abstract for your book. You will emphasize the essential elements in the plot, but you will get into details only if you are asked to!
